China Mobile TD: racing against time
21 CBH
Executives of some foreign companies
,who participated in the "2008 TD-SCDMA Evolution and LTE Summit"
organized by the TD-SCDMA Forum, said in an interview that this
summit disclosed a clear message: LTE is still at least 3 to 5 years
away; the telco restructuring is favorable for TD-SCDMA, and TD-SCDMA
is drawing more support from government.
In the Summit, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry
of Industry and Information, Ministry of Science and Technology,
and other relevant officials from the three ministries regarded
the current overall progress of TD-SCDMA as being smooth, they reiterated
that the government will continue to support the development of
TD-SCDMA, and called for strengthening the process of commercial
TD-SCDMA. |
China Mobile four cities TD-SCDMA network
upgraded to HSDPA
Sina.com
China Mobile has completed the HSDPA
upgrade on its TD-SCDMA testing network in Shanghai, Guangzhou,
Qin Huangdao, Tianjin .
Datang Mobile has formally reported that the HSDPA upgrade is
successful in Shanghai and Guangzhou, and the network coverage
in good condition. Datang also reported that theHSDPA download
speed can reach the peak rate supported by testing terminals.
Earlier on May 17th , Potevio had completed the HSDPA upgrade
on the UTRAN system in Tianjin andQinhuangdao,.Potevio is working
on the follow-up optimization of HSDPA. |
The TD-LTE international integration
"TD-SCDMA is the best choice
of the 3G data services." Zhou Huan, Chairman of the TD-SCDMA
Forum indicated in TD-SCDMA Evolution and LTE Summit. The TD-SCDMA
industrial chain has more and more multinational companies such
as Xlinx. Xlinx provides FPGA product, which enables the integration
of of various wireless technologies on uniform hardware platform.
It cannot only reduce the costs, also contribute to the internationalization
of TD-SCDMA. |

Abstract of the opening remarks
at the "TD-SCDMA Evolution and LTE Summit Shanghai 2008¡±
Yao Shicheng£¬ Director General of SHCA: Shanghai
is one of the TD-SCDMA trial cities of China Mobile. With cooperation
of all parties, over 3,000 TD-SCDMA base stations were deployed
in shanghai within one year. Shanghai will continue to work on the
TD-SCDMA network optimization, and to promote 3G applications in
preparation for the coming 3G commercial market. Wang
Xiaoyun, Vice-president of China Mobile Research Institute: We
(China Mobile) believe that the development of either LTE or TD-LTE
indicates important change in the international communication
industry pattern. In the fields of standardization, industrialization
and new technologies, the international influence of China telecommunication
industry has been promoted tremendously. Chinese companies have
got more say in international standard organizations such as ITU.
Xie Yongbin, President of Datang Mobile Communication
company: TD-SCDMA is taking an express lane. However, it
will take at least 5 years to see the maturity of TD-LTE industry,
because the standard is totally new, and it has a bad compatibility
with 2G and 3G. We predict that the TD-LTE will not be volume
deployed until 2012. TD-LTE will start from hot-zone coverage.
Yang Hua, secretary-general of the TD-SCDMA
Industry Alliance: Generally speaking, although the TD
industry chain has been in existence, more effort is required
with the help of market operations to ensure the stabilization
of TD-SCDMA product platforms, and to accumulate the resources
required for further evolution of TD-SCDMA. We must come up with
an executable plan for not only the smooth layout of the TD-SCDMA
in the 3G era, also to ensure a brilliant and continuous future
of TD-LTE. This will provide a prosperous market potential for
entire TD-SCDMA supply chain. .
Vincent Tong, Senior Vice President of Xilinx:
The Company has brought forward the FPGA solution for TD-SCDMA.
So much convergence have appeared during the course from 2G to
4G, among which there are so many changes. Xlinx¡¯s programmable
chip can be adaptive to the changing environments; it can be used
in any technology or product in the future to support the industrialization
of TD-SCDMA. |

Fujitsu predicts WiMax sale to hit $1b by
2011 telecomasia.net
Fujitsu is aiming for 100 billion yen ($1
billion) in sales of its WiMax microchips in the year starting April
2011, up from virtually none in the year ended March 31, a Reuters
report said.
WiMax services will be launched on a commercial basis as early as
this year in Taiwan. In Japan, a group led by KDDI plans to start
WiMax operations next year.
Awaga said the number of WiMax users globally is likely to reach
up to 50 million by 2012.
"By 2011 or 2012, certain progress should have been made on
commercial operations, and various services will have become available,"
Awaga said.
Awaga said, despite expectations by some industry specialists, WiMax
may not be competing with another high-speed telecommunications
technology called Long Term Evolution to be the fourth-generation
mobile phone standard of choice. |

Telstra Activates "3G Direct Tunnel"
on its HSDPA Network cellular-news
Australia's Telstra has activated an important new feature for the
Mobile Packet Core network called 3G Direct Tunnel on their WCDMA/HSPA
network. The equipment for this was provided by Ericsson. The 3G
Direct Tunnel feature provides a direct connection between the 3G
networks RNC (Radio Network Controller) and GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support
Node), hence capacity increase to Telstra's mobile packet core network.
The feature is standardized by 3GPP, the defining body for mobile
network standards. By implementing it Telstra starts to evolve their
3G network to a flat all-IP architecture that will both allow the
network capacity to grow while lowering the cost of expanding the
network to meet ever growing demand. |
China TD-SCDMA summit has LTE on the agenda
3GPP
The TD-SCDMA and LTE Summit (Shanghai, 31st May ¨C 1st June)
was a good opportunity for over 400 delegates to take stock of the
weeks¡¯ restructuring of the Chinese telecoms sector, which will
lead to there being three mobile operators ¨C each expected to receive
a 3G licence in the near future.
TD-SCMDA is incorporated within 3GPP specifications, and in Shanghai
Adrian Scrase, 3GPP PCG Secretary, confirmed that LTE (TDD mode)
provides a future-proof evolution for TD SCDMA. |
