Series Report of TD-SCDMA Preliminary commercial trial network
At present, the ratios between TD-SCDMA base stations to GSM base stations are 65%-75% in Xiamen, Qin Huangdao, Shenyang. The ratios are even lower, less than 45%, in major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. Therefore, the TD-SCDMA network requires constant optimization and expansion before it¡¯s coverage can be comparable to the existing 2G network.

The site acquision was a major difficulty in the 1st round of network construction in major cities. This problem was alleviated by co-locating the TD-SCDMA base stations with GSM. In Guangzhou and Shanghai, 80% of TD-SCDMA base stations were built in GSM sites, which ensured timely completion of the TD-SCDMA network construction. The performance and coverage depend greatly on the co-location of TD-SCDMA and GSM base stations.
