Signal Generators

Agilent Technologies offers the widest selection of high-performance signal sources from dc to 110GHz

RF performance and leading-edge baseband generation
Agilent's E4438C ESG vector signal generator combines outstanding RF performance and sophisticated baseband generation to deliver calibrated test signals at baseband, IF, and RF frequencies up to 6 GHz. Featuring an internal baseband generator with arbitrary waveform and real-time I/Q capabilities, ample waveform playback and storage memory, and a wide RF modulation bandwidth, the E4438C ESG is equipped to test today's complex wireless systems and their components.

Modular architecture to meet your test requirements
The E4438C ESG is an adaptable platform with optional capabilities to customize the instrument for baseband and RF test applications ranging from simple distortion test and general purpose troubleshooting to baseband coding algorithm development, advanced transceiver design verification, and high volume manufacturing. Its modular architecture makes it easy to configure the instrument with the level of performance and signal creation capability you need today with the option to upgrade in the future.

Test TD-SCDMA components and receivers
The TD-SCDMA option for the E4438C ESG provides powerful development and manufacturing signal creation software for evolving 3G mobile radios, base stations, and their components. The simple PC user-interface enables quick configuration of custom signals or programmatically using SCPI over the LAN or GPIB interface.

Create realistic test signals for component testing
Test uplink and downlink TD-SCDMA components by configuring up to seven traffic timeslots along with the uplink and downlink pilot timeslots. Each timeslot can be loaded with up to 16 code channels for generating high crest factor signals important for simulating real-world conditions.

Transport layer coded signals for BER/BLER analysis
Thoroughly test your receiver's RF and baseband subsections with flexible transport layer coded TD-SCMDA channels. Up to seven independently configured channels can be arbitrarily assigned to one or more timeslots. Additionally, these fully coded channels can be augmented with multiple partially coded channels to simulate other users in the system. Select from seventeen coded channel types, multiple data types, control parameters, add AWGN, and insert bit and CRC errors when performing BER/BLER analysis.

Evaluate the user interface
Download Signal Studio to a PC to review the user interface and investigate the TD-SCDMA signal creation capabilities of the software prior to purchase. Each vector signal generator must be licensed separately in order to generate the signals created by the software.

Typical Applications
Signal Studio for TD-SCDMA is recommended for testing TD-SCDMA mobile and base station transceivers and their components. Typical applications include:
Filter and amplifier performance evaluation
ASIC/DSP coding algorithm development and debugging
Receiver BER/BLER analysis

Features
Graphical display shows frame structure - quickly verify configuration
Save time with preconfigured setups - quickly save and recall custom configurations
Selectable baseband filtering - optimize ACP for amplifier or optimize EVM for receiver measurements
Import or select from built-in data patterns - PRBS, fixed bit patterns, or user file
Remote signal configuration - automate signal generation through SCPI over LAN or GPIB
Flexible channel configuration - midamble, switching point, spreading code, data type, power level, and more
Generate up to 16 code channels per timeslot - create high crest factor signals for components
Perform BER/BLER tests with transport layer coded signals - up to seventeen coded channel types - including BCCH-T, TCH/T-EFS and TCH/T9.6

Spectrum Analyzer

The Agilent PSA Series offers high-performance spectrum analysis up to 50 GHz with powerful one-button measurements, a versatile feature set, and a leading-edge combination of flexibility, speed, accuracy, and dynamic range.

Perform power measurements on TD-SCDMA signals from base transceiver stations or mobile handsets using TD-SCDMA measurement personality (Option 211) based on TMA V3.1.0/NTDD standard. This new standard requires measurements of transmitter power, power versus time, adjacent channel power, multi-carrier power, spurious emissions and spectrum emissions mask.

These measurements are made easy using the "one-button" feature built into the measurement personality. Each of the "one-button" measurements can be customized to meet your unique needs. For example, the number of carriers in the multi-carrier power measurement can be selected from two to twelve carriers.

To perform modulation analysis on TD-SCDMA signals, Agilent offers this advanced capability with the 89601A vector signal analysis software. With this software, you can easily evaluate and troubleshoot your 3G modulation signals. Whether your signal is cdma2000/1xEV-DV or W-CDMA/HSDPA, TD-SCDMA or 1xEV-DO, the tools and analysis flexibility in 89601A help you test your signal to its standard and troubleshoot the problem if the signal fails to meet its standard.

When combined with new ADS (Advanced Design System ) links to instrumentation such as Agilent's ESG Signal Source and PSA signal analyzer, you can create a system with "virtual hardware" - using the simulation to substitute for a missing piece in the block diagram, and making measurements on it as though it were physically existing

Connected solutions

Connected Solutions refers to the integration of Agilent's EDA Software (ADS) and Agilent instrumentation into a solution that enables new design and verification capabilities. It combines simulation and measurement, and allows the sharing of signals, measurements, algorithms, and data in both directions between the two domains.

Create simulation models from measurements. Connected Solutions can be used to measure existing components and create simulation models. These models can then be used in ADS to determine how the existing hardware might impact the overall performance of a system or circuit in simulation, saving design time and money.
Accelerate verification testing. Connected solutions make it easy to determine if a component or sub-system will work within the system as a whole, without having to build the whole system. Integration issues can be found and fixed earlier in the design process, reducing risk and saving design re-work time and costs.
Extend the capability and value of instruments. Connected Solutions make applications such as coded Bit Error Rate testing of a component or stimulating a device with the impaired signal that will be present in a system possible, enhancing the value of Agilent's test instrumentation.
