TD-SCDMA Evolution and LTE Summit hosted by the TD-SCDMA Forum
and supported by China Mobile, China Communication Standardization
Association (CCSA), TD-SCDMA Industry Association, 3GPP, and
UMTS Forum, was held successfully at Shanghai International
Convention Center from May 31 to June 1, 2008. This summit won
the support of National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry
of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Industry and Information
Technology. Over 300 representatives from TD-SCDMA Forum member
enterprises, scientific research institutes, telecom operators,
international standardization organizations and investors attended
this conference.
This summit promotes the ideas of ¡°opening, competition, cooperation,
and gaining benefit with the whole world¡± by greatly boosting
TD-SCDMA industrialization and market development and actively
carrying out technical R&D work for TD-LTE to lay foundation
for future development. In the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhou Huan,
chairman of TD-SCDMA Forum, gave the welcome speech. Dr. Wang
Jing, acting general secretary of TD-SCDMA Forum, presided the
ceremony. Zhu Gaofeng, director general of China Communications
Standards Association, Wu Hequan, vice president of Chinese
Academy of Engineering, Feng Jichun, head of High-tech Development
and Industrialization Division of Ministry of Science and Technology,
Mr. Qi Chengyuan, inspector of High-tech Industrialization Division
of National Development and Reform Commission, Zhang Xinsheng,
former vice head of Science and Technology Division of Ministry
of Information Industry, and Yao Shicheng, chief of Shanghai
Communications Administration, attended the conference and gave
speech to express warm congratulations on the successful opening
of TD-SCDMA Evolution and LTE International Summit and accomplishments
achieved on TD-SCDMA industrialization work and subsequent evolution
technical standards. During this summit, Zhu Gaofeng, director
general of China Communications Standards Association, stated
that increasing national economic capacity by mastering core
technologies that are independently developed and following
the policies of technical standardization and standard industrialization
in major industries has become a basic national strategy for
many developing countries to become rich, and that historic
opportunities brought by TD-SCDMA should not be missed in mobile
telecommunication industry, a very special strategic field that
relates to national strategic security and general industrial
development, with the coming of the 3G mobile communication
age. He also hoped that TD-SCDMA has brighter future of commercialization
in China and in the whole world.
During the keynote speech session presided by Mr. Zhou Baoxin,
general secretary of China Communications Standardization Association,
lectures were given by some guests including Ms. Wang Xiaoyun,
vice president of China Mobile Group Research Institute, Mr.
Xie Yongbin, president of Datang Mobile Communications Equipment
Co., Ltd., and Mr. Yang Hua, general secretary of TD-SCDMA Industrial
Association with topics such as ¡°Datang Mobile actively promotes
current and future development of TD-SCDMA¡± and ¡°development
and evolution of the TD-SCDMA industry¡±. Many industry chain
enterprises, including Xilinx, Nortel, Spreadtrum, Nokia-Siemens,
Alcatel Shanghai Bell, T3G, Agilent, Rohde-Schwarz, Huawei,
Potevio and Anritsu, also gave wonderful lectures and about
how to face challenges posed by mobile broadband in the future
and how to deploy schemes during operation.
In the interactive discussion session presided by Professor
Chen Ruming, vice director of Communications Technology Committee
of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, seven guests,
including Mr. Yang Hua, general secretary of TD-SCDMA Industrial
Association, Mr. Adrian Scrase from 3GPP, Mr. Asimakis Kokkos
from Nokia-Siemens, Doctor Cao Qiang from Spreadtrum, Mr. Zhang
Daijun from T3G, and Professor Zeng Xudong from Nortel, deeply
discussed and exchange ideas about TD-SCDMA evolution as well
as TD-LTE relation and strategies. According to these guests,
on one hand, development of TD industry and market is the prerequisite
for the success of TD-LTE. To achieve this, we must first help
enterprises gain much product related experiences through market
competition and continuously increase total capacity of the
industry chain by boosting TD-SCDMA industrialization, completing
product platforms and greatly promoting market applications
of TD-SCDMA. On the other hand, TD-LTE also facilitates the
sustainable development of TD-SCDMA industry and market. Establishment
of TDD-LTE technology for further evolution helps create a clear
blueprint for the future. The conference reached its climax
during face-to-face conversations between guests and representatives
from different enterprises.
This conference was the first large international summit held
after the Announcement on Deepening the Reform of the Structure
of the Telecommunications Sector was issued jointly by Ministry
of Industry and Information Technology, National Development
and Reform Commission and Ministry of Finance on May 24. Success
of this conference also promises an gradually mature market
for TD-SCDMA.
Doctor Wang Jing, general secretary of TD-SCDMA Forum, noted
that TD-SCDMA Forum will perform the same functions as ever
by making all efforts to promote existing TD-SCDMA industries
and actively studying TD-SCDMA evolution technologies LTE (with
focus on TD-LTE) to lay foundation for further development.
The Forum will also answer the call of national government to
accelerate large scale application of independent research results,
guarantee continuous development of subsequent technologies,
significantly increase idependent innovation capability, further
improve telecom industry service capacity and level, and further
reinforce regulatory system so that the public can fully benefit
from results of telecom industry development and reform. He
believed that as the deepening of telecom system reform in China,
concrete industry chain basis will be provided for TD-SCDMA
and its evolution technologies to serve 3G market in China as
well as establishment and R&D of relevant TD-LTE.
