TD-SCDMA hosted a salon on Dec. 21st, 2007 in Beijing. The
activity aimed to better explore issues in the ongoing TD-SCDMA
network trials and the forthcoming TD-SCDMA commercialization.
Participant from government regulatory bodies and telecom carriers
included Mr. Qiao Yueshan, director of Telecom Product and System
Division, Dept. of Electronic and IT Products, MII; Mr. Yu Shengduo,
director of High Tech Development Division, Dept. of Science
and Technology; MII; Mr. Xu Peng from High Tech Development
Division, Dept. of Science and Technology; MII; Mr. Li Bo, deputy
director of China Telecommunication Technology Labs (CTTL);
Mr. Li Xiaoming, vice general manager of China Unicom Technology
Dept. etc. In addition, more than 30 representatives from the
TD Forum board and senior member organizations attended the
activity, including Datang, Nokia-Siemens Networks, Shanghai
Bell Alcatel, UT Starcom, Samsung, Commit, CYIT, Media Tek,
LG, R&S, Intel and etc.
The salon was chaired by Dr. Jing Wang, acting Secretary-General
of TD Forum. He firstly expressed his gratitude to leaders from
MII and TD Forum Board and Senior member organizations for their
long-term support and dedication to the TD-SCDMA Forum. He hoped
attendees take the opportunity to communicate with government
officials and each other.
In the free discussion session, leaders from TD Forum board
and senior member organizations talked with MII representatives
about hot issues in TD-SCDMA, which have attracted interest
from the whole industry.
Yang Xuejun from Datang Mobile said, the TD-SCDMA trials in
ten major Chinese cities in 2007 was a strong impetus to TD
system and terminal R&D. With the support of MII, more system
and terminal providers are now involved in TD-SCDMA. So far
the TD network is mature and the TD-SCDMA technology evolution
path is quite clarified. TD-SCDMA large-scale commercial deployment
is right on the track.
Qian Guoliang, from LG, added, the first-stage TD-SCDMA trial
goes smoothly in Qinhuangdao, which gives TD terminal providers
more confidence to solve other problems in TD terminals.
Zhang Daijun, representative of T3G said, compared with FDD,
TDD has its differentiated characteristics. He suggested differential
strategies for TD-SCDMA LTE arrangements.
Li Bo, deputy director of China Telecommunication Technology
Labs (CTTL) said, the 3-month TD-SCDMA terminal network trials
was going smoothly. He pledged testing and measurement equipment
manufacturers to provide more equipment for HSDPA and USAT testing.
Finally, Yu Shengduo, director of High Tech Development Division,
Dept. of Science and Technology, MII, said, TD-SCDMA Forum is
an open and neutral platform and has been playing a very active
while important role in TD-SCDMA development. He hoped more
enterprises to invest in TD-SCDMA.
Dr. Wang said TD Forum will continue to host different kind
of activities and further enable the communication between TD
Forum member organizations and the Chinese government. TD Forum
will provide reliable information for decision-makers in their
investment and resource allocation and further promote the TD-SCDMA
commercialization.
