| The 8th China Wireless & Mobile Communication International
Summit 2007 was held in Beijing on July 11-12, 2007.
Dr. Jing Wang, Senior Consultant of TD-SCDMA Forum attended
the welcome and opening ceremony. As the VIP guest speakers
in the plenary discussion panel - Capturing value in the network,
Dr. Wang, Paul Wuh- Senior Vice President, Lehman Brothers¡¯
Asian Telecom Equity Research, and Prof. Michael Walker,-Vodafone
Group R&D Director, discussed with other delegates issues
like cost-saving technology trends, network architecture, data
enhancing technologies, and 3G trends and how will these transform
the industry in the next 5-10 years.
When talked about the network convergence issues, Wang said
¡° mobile network operators will face more challenges in the
next-generation network. The tendency of free basic voice and
data services forced mobile carriers to put more resources on
value-added services. They have to choose technologies with
high spectrum efficiency and reasonable cost.¡±
One of the hot topics in this conference was coexistence and
convergence of different technologies in the future hybrid telecom
networks. Dr. Wang said, different feature technologies will
target different applications, customers and market segmentations.
Telecom carriers have begun to plan the architecture of future
network, aiming to accommodate different technologies and different
mode terminals. Technology convergence is a long-term objective
and will take time. Convergence represents different things
in different stages. Currently, convergence may represent common
grounds in different core technology standards, which is also
the basis for their future evolution and convergence.
