Seminar on TD-SCDMA Network Planning Successfully Held

TD-SCDMA Forum

On Nov. 24 and 25, 2006, seminar on TD-SCDMA Network Planning and Optimization was successfully held by TD-SCDMA Forum in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. Over 70 representatives from the Forum member organizations and other interested parties attended this seminar. Organizations involved in this seminar included MII science and technology Dept., RITT, China Telecom, China Netcom, Datang Mobile, TD Tech, Huawei Technologies, Alcatel Shanghai Bell, UT Starcom, Qualcomm, Potevio, Fiberhome, Comba, T3G, Commit, CUPT, Infineon, Philips, Intel, Protek, Motorola, TCL, Samsung, LG, Agilent, Tektronix, Seahigh (Shanghai), France Telecom, NTT DoCoMo, SKT, Ericsson, NOKIA, NEC, Bynear Telesoft, Tongyu Communication, Transcom£¬PUTIAN-NOKIA Joint Venture, Netrein (Shanghai), Sunwave, Korea Inha University Wireless Communication Research Lab, National Taiwan University, NEMO Technologies Ltd etc. In-depth discussion was held on issues related to trails of large scale TD-SCDMA network deployment. Eg. principles and solutions of TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization, TD-SCDMA N frequency network deployment, TD-SCDMA indoor coverage and TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization tools, etc.

Firstly, Dr. Jing Wang, Secretary General of TD-SCDMA Forum delivered his opening remark. He said that the Forum had held a seminar on TD-SCDMA network planning in April this year and the main objective of which was to learn lessons from WCDMA deployment. Currently, the trials of large-scale TD-SCDMA network deployment are going smoothly. The TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization are critical in its commercialization. We organize this seminar to provide viewpoints and opinions in related with network planning and optimization, which are in urgent need in the industry.

Mr. Yu Shengduo, Director from MII Science and Technology Dept. said, TD-SCDMA network construction is the priority in the next stage TD-SCDMA development. Good network planning and optimization will help to guarantee better customer experience of different TD-SCDMA services. This will also benefit the fast and healthy development of the TD-SCDMA industry. He highly appreciated seminars and workshops hosted by TD-SCDMA Forum in year 2006, such as seminars on TD-SCDMA terminals and chipsets, TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization and etc. He also encouraged the Forum to organize more similar activities in the future addressing hot topics in this industry.

The seminar was presided by Mr. Wei Guiming, Director of MII telecom standard research institute (RITT). He stated that multi-carrier N frequency network deployment will dominate the future TD-SCDMA network construction. Network planning includes not only technology aspect, but also project construction and equipment configuration, etc. These aspects are interdependent. In addition, the hybrid network of 2G and 3G is complicated. Issues like interference between the two neighboring frequencies must be taken into consideration in the network planning phase. The efficiency and effectiveness of network optimization is also key to network deployment.

This seminar attracted a lot of attention from domestic and overseas telecom operators. Representatives from China Telecom, China Netcom, France Telecom, NTT DoCoMo, SKT attended this seminar and expressed their opinions on issues like how to avoid problems in TD-SCDMA code planning in the planning and operation of TD-SCDMA services, voice and data service planning in N frequency network deployment, UpPTS shifting, TD-SCDMA indoor coverage, TD-SCDMA frequency allocation and usage, time slot adjustment in TD workflow, switches between TD-SCDMA and WCDMA, TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization tools, etc.

The presentations in the seminar mainly focused on two issues. One is the technology planning, network deployment, TD-SCDMA long term evolution, etc. Presentations in this column included: Technology and Tools for TD-SCDMA Network Planning and Optimization by TD Tech, Multiple Frequency Cell Technology- Enhance the TD-SCDMA Network Performance by Datang Mobile, Principles and Solutions of TD-SCDMA network deployment by Potevio, Influence of Cell Breathing Effect to TD Network Planning by Fiberhome. Experts from Datang Mobile and TD Tech suggested the TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization be conducted phase by phase. In addition, Datang Mobile also introduced the HSDPA development roadmap in the coming year.

The other part of the presentations addressed mainly TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization tools. Including Comba¡¯s Application of TD-SCDMA Sender and Receiver in Network Planning and Optimization, TD-SCDMA Sweep Receiver in Network Planning and Indoor Coverage by Shanghai Seahigh, Bynear¡¯s NeST Network Planning Tools and DAP Network Optimization Software in TD-SCDMA Trial Network by Bynear Shanghai and Commit¡¯s Testing Handset ¨C To Accelerate TD-SCDMA Industrialization.

TD-SCDMA network planning and optimization is a long-term task. Some technological details need further verification in the follow up TD-SCDMA network trials. The TD-SCDMA Forum will closely monitor the progress in trials of TD-SCDMA large scale network deployment. In addition, we will continue to collect comments and suggestions from telecom operators, industry experts as well as our member organizations. We will organize other seminars and workshops on TD-SCDMA network planning and optimizations.
