On the opening ceremony of this Congress, representatives from the TD-SCDMA Forum, CDG and UMTS Forum delivered speeches respectively. The topic of Secretary General Jing Wang’s keynote speech is Embrace the Bright Future of TD-SCDMA. The TD-SCDMA Forum is an open public platform to internationalize TD-SCDMA technology. It has signed cooperation agreements with GSMA, CDG and 3GPP respectively. And it will surely play an important role in the future international cooperation in the 3G field globally. Dr. Jing Wang expected more organizations to be involved the TD-SCDMA R&D and he expected as well more overseas international telecommunications organizations, R&D and investment organizations to establish regular contact with the Forum.

A TD-SCDMA Workshop was also hosted by TD-SCDMA Forum during the Congress and Exhibition. This is also for the first time the TD-SCDMA Forum promote the latest development and commercial deployment of TD-SCDMA industry in an overseas environment. And this has attracted the interest of the attendees and further enhanced the influence of TD-SCDMA in the whole industry. Representatives from mobile telecommunications operators like Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan, O2, Thailand Mobile Telecom, investment organizations like JP Morgan, Merlin Securities, Deutsche Bank etc. and some overseas wireless equipment manufacturers also attended the workshop.

The workshop was presided by Dr. Li Wanlin, Vice President of the Forum. Dr. Jing Wang, Secretary General of the Forum and Mr. Yang Hua, Secretary General of TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance introduced to the audience respectively the mission and organization of the TD-SCDMA Forum and TDIA as well as the latest TD-SCDMA development and its market perspectives. Mr. Wang Zhong, Vice President of TD Tech, Mr. Lu Wu, Marketing Director of Datang Mobile, Mr. Jiang Hai, TD-SCDMA Product Director from ZTE, Mr. Johan Pross, Chief Executive Officer of T3G Technology and Dr Li Xiaoqiang from Samsung introduced respectively the lasted R&D status in their organizations, the TD testing as well as the TD product evolution path and the market forecast. As one of the authorities in the TD-SCDMA field, Dr. Li Wanlin delivered the closing remarks in the workshop. He believed the TD-SCDMA would succeed because it has differentiating features over other technologies and the support from the Chinese government. In addition, the huge mobile telecommunication market in China is also a key success factor. All the attendees highly appreciated the great achievement TD-SCDMA has made these years and hope to enhance their cooperation in the TD-SCDMA field through the TD-SCDMA Forum’s open platform. Such as to jointly initiate projects, network deployment and attract investment. Operators like Chunghwa Telecom expressed great interest in TD-SCDMA and expected to exchange views and ideas with organizations in this industry through TD-SCDMA Forum.
　
One thing we need to mention in this congress is the booth of the Forum in the Exhibition. The layout of the booth in this Congress is much different from that of the previous year. In addition to the posters, flyers etc., it also displayed latest TD-SCDMA commercial products. More than 20 newly developed TD-SCDMA handsets were demonstrated in the booth and these verified the great achievements we have made in TD-SCDMA R&D. The products displayed in the booth included Samsung’s TD-SCDMA/GSM dual mode terminal, LG’s TD-SCDMA/GSM/WCDMA terminal as well as terminals from Datang Mobiel, ZTE, DBTel, Inventec, Hisense, Bird, Amoi, Holley IT, CYIT, Lenovo and Simcom etc. These products are amazing and the visitors were surprised to have so many commercial TD-SCDMA handset over nearly only one night. Terminals used to be regarded as the bottleneck of TD-SCDMA industry. However, currently, these handsets can realize major functions and services. We believe in early 2006, more TD-SCDMA commercial handset will be available.

The booth of the Forum attracted a lot of visitors. The staff of the Forum secretariat and representatives of the member organizations introduced relevant technology and products to the visitors and answered their questions. The visitors wants to get more TD-SCDMA and 3G related information in China through the Forum website and journals, etc. In addition, TD-SCDMA has attracted more attention from the telecom industry and the news agencies. Secretary General Jing Wang and Vice Secretary General Fu Jun was interviewed respectively by many news agencies, such the Wall Street Journal, Total Telecom, Communications Weekly, People’s Posts and Telecommunications News, the Standard and the Oriental Press. They answered questions about the TD industrialization, future TD commercial deployment as well as its market prospects. We can see that the Forum is playing an increasing role in the international telecom market.

The Hongkong 3G World Congress and Exhibition is the largest 3G Expo in Asia. More than 8000 representatives from world-renowned telecom equipment manufacturers, mobile telecom operators, R&D and investment organizations attended this Congress. The core members of the TD-SCDMA Forum attended the congress and demonstrated latest TD-SCDMA achievements through workshops and product demo. These further convinced the interested parties that the TD-SCDMA industry will surely be commercialized and this has laid a solid foundation for its future internationalization. There will be more commercial handsets and products in the future and these will greatly benefit the TD-SCDMA internationalization.

TD-SCDMA Forum has played an important role in the past 5 years in promoting the TD-SCDMA technology, its industrialization and its internationalization. Currently, the TD-SCDMA is right to be commercialized and mature TD-SCDMA systems and terminal products will be available in early 2006. As a public platform to bridge the Chinese government, international standardization organizations, telecom operators, R&D and investment organizations, TD-SCDMA Forum will further bring its advantages as a neutral and public platform into full play to promote the industrialization and commercialization of TD-SCDMA and further facilitate the cooperation in the industry and strive to enhance the influence of TD-SCDMA in the world as well as the international cooperation in this field.

We believe with the boosting of the 3G market in China, TD-SCDMA will play a more important role in the 3G field both in China and the world. The success of TD-SCDMA will enrich the 3G market in China and globally. We believe the success of TD-SCDMA in China will as well trigger the internationalization of the technology in the whole world.
