| Today, the pace of 3G technology commercialization has been
accelerated and different technologies coexist. 3G enhancement
technologies like HSDPA have already been commercialized. Before
the large-scale commercial deployment of TD-SCDMA, the pre-commercial
R&D was conducted by system equipment providers and chipset
makers like Datang, TD-Tech, ZTE, China Putian, T3G and etc. A
seminar about TD-SCDMA technology and evolution was proposed by
TD-SCDMA member organizations and was organized by TD-SCDMA Forum
in Beijing in Sep. this year.
The 3G workshop is one of the serial TD technology and standard
evolution seminars. It was held in the afternoon of Oct. 19th
as one part of the Future Mobile Communications Conference held
in Shanghai. As the co-organizer of this workshop, TD-SCDMA
Forum invited experts from its member organizations to attend
this workshop, included Mr. Lin Hui, Director of Institute of
Telecommunications Standards Research of CATR, MII, Dr. Wang
Yingmin, Deputy General Manager of Datang Mobile¡¯s System and
Standard Department and Mr. Jarbot from TD Tech. They introduced
the progress and prospects of TDD technology evolution and exchanged
their viewpoints with other attendees.
Firstly, Dr. Jing Wang, Secretary General of the TD-SCDMA Forum
introduced to the attendees background information about the
Forum and activities hosted by the Forum recently, such as the
serial TD technology and standard evolution seminars, meeting
for VIPs of the member organization, TD-SCDMA technology training,
etc. As a communication platform of the Chinese government,
international telecommunications standard organizations, TD
R&D enterprises, research institutions, and investment organizations,
TD-SCDMA played an important role in the TD-SCDMA popularization,
industrialization and internationalization. In addition, Dr.
Wang extended his willingness to create more opportunities for
the forum members to communicate and better promote the TDD
technology evolution.
Mr. Lin Hui from the Telecommunications Standard Research Institute
said, China has long been engaged in the standardization of
TD-SCDMA evolution and relevant TD-SCDMA HSDPA and MC TD-SCDMA
technology specification will soon be formulated by CCSA. TD-SCDMA
will evolve to 3GPP R4, HSDPA, HSUPA, MC TD-SCDMA and OFDM TDD.
The TD system capability in 1.6M will be enhanced; currently
the HSDPA sample equipments are ready for demo. The next step
objective is to improve the data rate. OFDM based technologies
are good solution for broadband communication. However, relative
smooth and stable evolution is critical to guarantee coexistence
of TD-SCDMA and other technologies.
Dr. Wang Yingmin from Datang Mobile introduced the TD-SCDMA
technology and standard evolution as well as the research status
of LTE TDD. Datang will do LTE R&D on the basis of their
previous research. Backward compatibility should be taken into
consideration. In addition, this technology should be made to
support cellular systems and hot spot systems. Datang has already
submitted two proposals to 3GPP. One is about multiple carrier
TD-SCDMA. This technology can be used for smooth evolution and
has better compatibility. The other one is about LTE TDD OFDM.
This is a brand new technology aiming at long-term TDD evolution.
In addition, Datang¡¯s research scope also cover various enhancement
technologies like HSUPA, enhanced joint detection technology,
multiple carrier based on LCR, multiple antenna and MBMS etc.
At last, he addressed that TDD technology is more flexible in
spectrum allocation, it flexibly support asymmetric services
and the TDD technology will surely play an important role in
the future.
Mr. Jarbot from TD Tech introduced that TD Tech has already
submitted many proposals regarding TDD LCR standards to 3GPP
and CCSA. Telecom operators expect to have a cost effective
network and this network can be available with MIMO, smart antenna,
joint detection and uplink synchronization technologies, etc.
TDD technology will allow dynamic channel allocation and the
frequency utilization rate is much higher than other technologies.
So, if we consider from a long-term point of view, TDD has its
differentiating features. He believed that TD-SCDMA would coexist
with other technologies like FDD, etc.
The 3G Workshop is an important part of the Future Mobile Telecommunications
Conference. MOCCA-WWI project symposium was also held successfully.
The theme of the two-day Summit was ¡°Future Mobile Communications
Technology¡±. Attendees of the Summit included government officials
in relevant future mobile communications departments from China,
Japan, South Korea and the Europe Union, key technical personnel
from Beyond 3G mobile communications programs, leaders form
relevant international standardization organizations and technology
forums as well as experts from famous European and Asian mobile
communications operators, telecom manufacturers, universities
and research institutes. Keynote speeches, presentations, group
discussions were provided to study and research the prospects
and strategy of future mobile communications development. Mr.
Feng Jichun, Director General of the Department of High and
New Technology and Industrialization of Ministry of Science
and Technology (MOST), Mr. Wen Ku, Director General of Science
and Technology Department of Ministry of Information Industry
(MII), Mr. Xie Feibo, Deputy Director of the National Radio
Administration Bureau and Mr. Li Yiping, Director of the Science
and Technology Committee of Shanghai Municipality as well as
high-level officials from the European Union, Korea and Japan
attended this Summit and delivered important speeches. In their
speeches they expressed their dedication to support the Future
B3G mobile communications technology and enhance the communication
and cooperation between China and other countries in this field.
Just one day before this Summit (Oct. 17), FuTURE Mobile Communications
Forum was set up in Shanghai. 26 cofounders of the Forum in
include 9 multinational corporations, Siemens, Nokia, Philips,
Shanghai Bell Alcatel, Motorola, Samsung, France Telecom and
NTT DOCOMO. Four main telecom operators in China as well as
famous telecom enterprises like Huawei, ZTE, Datang and universities
and research institutions in China.
The forum will be a professional, open and public platform
for international communication and cooperation. The Forum,
will act as a think-tank helping to guide Chinese development
and adoption of beyond-3G technologies. The Forum aims to facilitate
the synchronized development and adoption of Beyond 3G technologies
in China and other countries and the establishment of this forum
also marks the Chinese government¡¯s dedication in developing
future mobile communication technologies.
