To satisfy the requirements of its member organizations, TD-SCDMA Forum held the TD-SCDMA Technology Standard Evolution Seminar on Sep. 7, 2005. More than 30 representatives from Datang Mobie, TD-TECH, Siemens, Nortel, Huawei Technologies, ZTE, Shanghai Bell Alcatel, UT-Starcom, Qualcomm, Philips, NEC, Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies, T3G, Spreadtrum, Koretide (Shanghai), Tektronics, MCCI, France Telecom attended this seminar. Discussions were held on topics like direction of TD-SCDMA standard evolution, its implementation and etc.

In the Seminar, experts form the Institute of Communication Standards Research, MII, WTI of Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications, Datang Mobile, ZTE, Philips Research and Wireless Technology R&D department of Huawei Technologies gave their presentations. Topics of their presentations include status of 3GPP LTE research, path of TD-SCDMA evolution, TD-SCDMA technology development and standard evolution, prospects of TD-SCDMA evolution, soft frequency reuse technology of future mobile telecommunication systems and etc.

Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, Deputy Director General of the Science and Technology Department of MII highly appreciated this seminar. He expressed his own understanding of the TD-SCDMA evolution. He believes that the standard evolution is different from the establishment of a new standard. It can not be accomplished within a very short time. Currently, the long-term TD-SCDMA and B3G evolution is under hot discussion. This seminar is very necessary.

Director General Zhang said, as an open public international organization, TD-SCDMA Forum is a very good platform for its member organizations to exchange their ideas. He said the Forum should pay attention to the comments and suggestions of each member organization. The Forum should also transfer the members’ needs and wants to relevant organizations and better bridge different sectors of the TD-SCDMA industry. He also hopes the overseas member organizations of the Forum can help relevant Chinese enterprises in terms of their technology to help them perform better in the TD-SCDMA evolution.

During the seminar, Director General Zhang granted TD-SCDMA Forum’s membership certificate to Spreadtrum Communication Co. Ltd, the new Senior Member of the TD-SCDMA Forum.

The attendees believe the seminar will help different organizations to reach agreement on relevant issues and greatly promote the future TD R&D in these organizations.

Dr. Jing Wang, Secretary General of the TD-SCDMA Forum said that TD-SCDMA Forum has organized different member activities recently. Issues of common interest and concern were found in these activities. TD-SCDMA Forum has well bridged its members and the government. In the fourth quarter this year, the Forum will hold other seminars and meetings as well as co-organize TD-SCDMA workshops in relevant large scale conferences. The Forum will further facilitate the communication between different organizations in the industry chain and this will benefit the approaching TD-SCDMA commercialization. Dr. Wang also said that the Forum will strive to improve its service and suggested the members give more suggestions to the Forum.
