The Training Program of TD-SCDMA Standard and Testing Held in Beijing

By Leslie Cheung from TD-SCDMA Forum

¡¡¡¡
A four-day training program on TD-SCDMA standard and testing was jointly held by the Institute of Communication Standards Research, China Academy of Telecom Research (CATR), MII and the TD-SCDMA Forum. Over 130 attendees from member organizations of TD-SCDMA Forum and other TD-SCDMA vendors attended this training program.

Ms. Wang Zhiqin, deputy director of Institute of Communication Standards Research and Dr. Wang Jing, secretary-general of the TD-SCDMA Forum delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. In their speeches, they addressed the importance of this training program at this vital moment and wished this training a complete success.

Ms. Cao Shumin, vice president of CATR also attended the opening ceremony and the topic of her keynote speech was ¡°Status of TD-SCDMA technology development and testing¡±. She introduced the history of TD-SCDMA standard, latest development especially the just finished specialization testing and the potential future evolution of TD-SCDMA. Ms. Cao believes that the specialization testing will help to verify the core technologies of TD-SCDMA, the network deployment as well as the testing methodology and techniques. The testing will improve and perfect the TD-SCDMA standard and technology. In addition, it will accelerate the TD-SCDMA research and development as well as the industrialization of TD-SCDMA. This will lay a solid foundation for the final commercialization of TD-SCDMA.

For the overall testing which attracted widespread attention in the industry, Ms. Cao introduced that basic functions and services of TD-SCDMA equipments, systems and terminals can now be realized and the interoperability of terminal and system is acceptable. Regarding the radio network performance, she said that currently the service capacity of single cell voice and package data service can reach the theoretical value. In the testing of smart antenna, switching capacities and high-speed mobile performances, the hard handoff and Baton handoff among different cells can be realized.

In the coming four days, the training will cover a variety of topics like TD-SCDMA standard framework and the operating principle of the whole network, wireless interface technology and testing, terminals, video phone services, terminal consistency testing, USIM-ME interface technology, R4 core network technology and testing technology, development of 3G services and multiple technologies for mobile services, etc. Trainers in this program are experts participate in the testing from the Institute of Communications Standards Research and TD£SCDMA experts from Datang Mobile.

In the evening of July 26, the TD-SCDMA Forum will also host a salon named ¡°Let¡¯s talk about 3G¡±. In-depth discussion will be held on interested topics between the trainers and trainees.

In order to promote and accelerate the commercialization of TD-SCDMA and therefore facilitate its internationalization, TD-SCDMA Forum will host different kind of activities in the near future.

During the training program, an online Q&A area will be available in the website of TD-SCDMA Forum. For more information, please visit http://www.tdscdma-forum.org/510/test/list.asp?boardid=45
