Promote and Embrace the Industrialization, Commercialization, and Internationalization of TD-SCDMA Standard
¡ª¡ª2005 International TD-SCDMA Summit

¡°2005 International TD-SCDMA Summit¡± was held on April 26th and 27th in Kempinski Hotel in Beijing. Over 500 people from relevant decision-making government organizations, international telecom organizations, domestic and overseas telecom operators, TD-SCDMA related telecom organizations, investment organizations and prestigious research institutes attended the Summit.

The theme of this Summit is "An Outstanding 3G Standard, the Global TD-SCDMA ¡ª Promote and Embrace the Commercialization of TD-SCDMA¡±. In addition to the keynote speeches, an exhibition was held to showcase significant progress and breaking results in the latest TD-SCDMA development. Comprehensive discussions and presentations of the latest achievements and future trend of global TD-SCDMA and 3G technologies were presented during the Summit. In-depth discussions were held on a variety of topics including TD-SCDMA¡¯s differentiating features in technology, the latest status of R&D, field trials, applications, commercial operations, state policies and finance impact.

The 2005 International TD-SCDMA Summit continued to be a conference of ¡°high-profile, professional and authority¡±. Many manufacturers and vendors participated in the exhibition to demonstrate their 3G services based on TD-SCDMA. The exhibitors include system manufactures like Datang, ZTE, TD-Tech and China Putian; chipset makers like Spreadtrum; T3G, COMMIT, terminal manufacturers like Lenovo, Amoi, DBTel, etc. This summit is another full-scale exhibition of TD-SCDMA chain products since the Communications EXPO in last Oct. The attendees of this summit had a better appreciation of the rapid and healthy development in TD-SCDMA, and experienced a total new mobile life in the exhibition.

Senior officials and experts from National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), State Asset Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, Ministry of Information Industry (MII), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST),Ministry of Finance, C3G Group, China Academy of Telecommunications Research (CATR) delivered speeches on strategic issues of China 3G development. The topics of their presentations were ¡°Status of TD-SCDMA Industry Chain and TD-SCDMA Industrialization¡±, ¡°3G Standardization and Trials¡±, ¡°3GPP and TD-SCDMA UE Conformity¡±, ¡°Indoor Distribution of TD-SCDMA Network¡± and etc. Some presenters also analyzed and predicted the enhancement and evolution of TD-SCDMA and future planning of 3G development.

Compared with the previous Summits, an increased number of domestic and overseas telecom operators attended this Summit. Their presentation topics covered issues in the development of TD-SCDMA, TDD spectrum usage, the planning of 3G in the future and the market prospects of TD-SCDMA. In addition, international investment organizations like Price Waterhouse and Yankee Group delivered keynote speeches about the future TD-SCDMA market from different perspectives, such as the opportunities and challenges of 3G in China, the convergence of mobile and fixed networks, etc.

The success of ¡°2005 International TD-SCDMA Summit¡± will convince the interested parties that the TD-SCDMA industry is maturing and is ready to be commercialized. We believe that with the efforts of TD-SCDMA industry and strong support from the Chinese government, TD-SCDMA will surely be developed faster, and ready to embrace its industrialization, commercialization and internationalization.
