On the morning of October 21, Mr. Zhou Huan, Chairman of the TD-SCDMA Forum, and Dr. Wang Jing the Secretary General attended the opening ceremony of P&T/Expo Comm China 2008 held in the new venue of China International Exhibition Centre. On this P&T Expo Comm, the three operator giants first appeared together in the aftermath of telecom industrial restructuring. It is also a smash that TD-SCDMA made since its trial commercial use. TD-SCDMA really made itself an amazing sight.

In the afternoon, Mr. Zhou Huan and Dr. Wang Jing were present on the ICT China High Level Forum 2008. Dr. Wang delivered a speech titled “Situation and Prospective of TD-SCDMA” on behalf of the TD-SCDMA Forum.

Participants shared their views on the issues of 3G structure in China, the situation of TD-SCDMA industrial chain, the condition of trial commercial use that China Mobile is running, assessment of the current status of TD-SCDMA and the prospective of future development of TD-SCDMA. In the end, Dr. Wang Jing discussed the relationship between TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE. He believes TD-SCDMA is the basis for the development and maturity of TD-LTE. It is required to improve and make TD-SCDMA perfect before moving on. I. The real commercial use in China is still five years ahead: from the aspect of user fostering and market fostering, it still requires 3-5 years to the maturity; II. If the industrial chain of TD-SCDMA is weak and TD-SCDMA can’t develop to a large scale, the TD-SCDMA companies won’t be able to get sufficient reward from previous investment, and the R&D of TD-LTE won’t be able to sustained. This is a key factor.
