On June 28th and 29th, Mr. Huan Zhou and Dr. Jing Wang, chairman and secretary general of the TD-SCDMA Forum attended the 6th China 3G Mobile International Summit & Exhibition held in Beijing. Chairman Zhou stated in his speech that significant breakthroughs have been made in TD-SCDMA commercial product development and the trail results far exceeded people’s expectation.

In the morning of the 28th, Mr. Huan Zhou delivered a speech on behalf of the TD-SCDMA Forum. The topic of his speech is “Strategy for the Sustainable Development of China’s 3G Industry”. In his speech, Mr. Zhou stated that for a long time, the main factor limited the development of mobile communication industry in China is the problem between the big market and small manufacturing capacity. 3G is a golden opportunity in China’s telecom restructuring. With the development of the TD-SCDMA industry chain and its further internationalization, great breakthroughs have been made in TD-SCDMA commercial product development. These products are mature, stable and diversified to be commercialized. In addition, China has the IPR of TD-SCDMA, which will be advantageous in China’s international cooperation and negotiation.

When talked about the TD-SCDMA trails which is widely interested and talked about in the industry and by the media, Chairman Zhou said, so long, 4 system equipment manufacturers have provided professional indoor and field trails, and most works in the trail have been completed. Altogether 15 vendors and more than 20 terminals were involved in this trail, and the trail results far exceeded people’s expectation. Currently, most chipset makers have developed the second round tapout and both the functions and performances have been greatly improved. Some enterprises are now able to provide 384K services and commercial handsets development is right on the track toward matureness. More TD-SCDMA products are expected to be available in the market at the end of this year. Chairman Zhou also stated that the testing apparatus manufacturing is still a vulnerable point in the TD—SCDMA trails and the production capacity of TD-SCDMA component is yet to be enhanced.

During the Summit, Secretary General Jing Wang attended the media roundtable meeting held by the organizing committee and answered questions raised by the journalists together with representatives from 3G international organizations like CDG,UMTS Forum, Nortel Networks, Cisco, NEC, BDA China, etc. Dr. Jing Wang stated that the starting of TD-SCDMA is relatively late compared with its two rivals. However the achievement in this field is rather considerable. Currently, both the upstream and downstream sector of the TD-SCDMA industry chain is ready for the granting of 3G licenses. He went on to say that TD-SCDMA is not only a Chinese home-grown standard. It belongs to the world. In the future, the advantages of TD-SCDMA Forum will continue to be brought into full play. The TD-SCDMA Forum will dedicate to seek any opportunity for different players in the industry chain on a worldwide basis and promote the TD-SCDMA in the world.
